Track Strengthening

UPDATE 2011 : The worst two sections of the track (as mentioned below) have had strengthening mesh laid onto them by the council!

We'll leave it a couple of seasons before doing any more work as this may have solved the problem.

The track up the slope from Sibsey Street and around the corner on the first lane is getting badly rutted and gets damaged easily when vehicles are taken onto the plots when the ground is too soft. Although we ask that members do take vehicles on the plots when the conditions are bad it still sometimes happens.

The same goes for the track at the other end of the site from the Sunnyside gates. It easily gets water logged and the track is now quite unstable when wet.

When we laid the tracks in the extension to the site they were covered with a strong plastic mesh to protest them from this kind of damage. It seems to be working very well so it is intended to cover existing trackways with the same mesh when funds allow.

We're in discussion with the council at the moment to see if they can help with some of the cost.

The photos on the left show the new tracks before the grass grew through the mesh and then what happens if you drive on the wet unprotected tracks...click here for more photos!
